FOOD AND BEVERAGE
The requirements that have to be met by the filter plates in the food and beverage industry are multifaceted: high TS content, optimal wash results and even cake thicknesses are demanded. Klinkau Filter Plates are successfully utilized in virtually every processing industry. Klinkau products are unsurpassed in the filtration of many products, such as sugar, starch, beer, whisky, wine, wine yeast, baker yeast, milkfats and vegetable oils.
SUGAR INDUSTRY
In the sugar industry, TS contents of at least 70 % with a maximum remaining sugar content of 0.5 % in the filter cake are demanded. This high extraction rate shall be reached with a wash water volume, that does not exceed the cake volume. With cycle times of 12 to 30 minutes in 24-hour production and working temperatures that range between 80° and 85° Celsius, the membranes are being put to work at maximum stress conditions. Klinkau Membrane Filter Elements are being used in the sugar industry with great success.
MASH FILTRATION
Grain remainders are separated from the malt extract by gentle filtration ensuring a high extract quality and maximum yield. During this process, membrane filter elements with a high washing efficiency, special arrangement of the wash water distribution system and special feed configuration are needed. Additionally, the membrane filter elements that are used significantly reduce the wash water consumption compared to conventional elements. All of these requirements are met by Klinkau Membrane Filter Plates.

PALM OIL FILTRATION
Refined, bleached palm oil is cooled to a temperature of about 20° C during a crystallization process. During this process, the saturated fatty acids solidify. The crystal suspension is subsequently filtered, whereupon the yield of liquid olein is crucial. An even cake thickness has a significant influence on the squeeze result and hence on the profitability. The non-stayboss filtration surface and the pipped profile of the membrane body of the Klinkau Membrane Filter Plates successfully contribute to these desired results. Klinkau has developed a special anti-static membrane compound (see vegetable oil filtration) for the palm oil filtration.
VEGETABLE OIL FILTRATION
The filtration of vegetable oil results in extremely large electrostatic charges, that regularly lead to membrane damage. Anti-static membranes prevent this electrostatic charging process and resulting membrane damage can therefore be avoided. Klinkau developed an anti-static membrane compound with excellent flexible properties. This material ensures a safe working environment and is certified according to LMBG for the food industry (German quality patent DE29818048U1). All Klinkau Membrane Plates and Filter Plate Elements are available in this design. The anti-static membrane material is also suitable for explosion proof production areas. Klinkau has recently been ATEX Zone 0 certified.
