PROCESSING OF POTABLE WATER
Special filter elements are crucial in the processing of potable (drinking) water. Besides fast cycles and high operational capacity, filter plates with large filtration surfaces are used. Depending on the origin of the untreated water to be filtered, the filtration can turn out to be quite difficult. Conditioning of polymers, alum or aluminum sulfate is added. Depending on official regulations, the processing may have to be conducted without conditioner. This procedure, however, leads to extremely thin filter cakes which bears the risk of creating differential pressures due to an uneven cake build-up in the individual chambers.

The Klinkau Filter Plates in the »Empty Chamber« design are of great advantage under these difficult circumstances. In this case, the Klinkau Overhanging Membrane Filter Plates »Empty Chamber« design sizes 1200 mm up to 2000 x 2000 mm have proven to be reliable.

Often, the filter presses are equipped with mechanical devices, that supposedly provide an automatic cake discharge. Therefore, the feed eyes are often located externally and on the bottom of the filter plate.
